1:1 Paulos, a shliach of Yehoshua (יהושע) Mashiach by the commandment of Elohim (אלהים) Moshieynu, and the Master Yehoshua (יהושע) Mashiach, which is tikvateynu (our hope);
To Timotheos (Τιμόθεος),
my own son in the faith:
Grace mercy, and peace from Elohim (אלהים) Avinu and Yehoshua (יהושע) Mashiach Adoneinu.
1:3 As I urged you to abide still at Ephesos, when I went into Makedonia, that thou mightest charge some that they teach no other teaching,
1:4 nor to pay attention to myths and endless toldot (genealogies), which give rise to mere speculation rather than furthering the administration of Elohim (אלהים) which is by faith.
1:5 Now the end of the commandment is ahavah out of a lev tahor (pure heart), and [of] a good conscience, and [of] faith without tzevi'ut (hypocrisy):
1:6 But certain individuals have missed the mark on this very matter and have wandered away into fruitless discussion;
1:7 Desiring to be teachers of the Torah; they have no understanding of what they are saying, nor whereof they make confident assertions.
1:8 But we know that the Torah [is] Tov, if a man use it legitimately;
1:9 Knowing this, that the Torah is not made for a righteous man, but for the trangressor and disobedient, for the without yirat Shomayim and for sinners, for wick (unholy) and profane, for murderers of fathers and murderers of mothers, for manslayers,
1:10 For immoral men, for them that defile themselves with shochvim es zachar (homosexuals, sodomite), for kidnappers, for shakranim (liars), for nishba'im lasheker (perjurers, false swearer), and if there be any other thing that is contrary to sound teaching;
1:11 According to the glorious Good News of the blessed Elohim (אלהים), which was committed to my trust.
1:12 And I thank Mashiach Yehoshua (יהושע) Adoneinu, who has enabled me, for that he counted me faithful, putting me into the ministry; (cf Acts 8:1-3; 9:1-19)
1:13 Who was before a blasphemer, and a persecutor, and injurious: but I obtained mercy, because I did [it] ignorantly in unbelief.
1:14 And the grace of Adoneinu was exceeding abundant with faith and love which is in Mashiach Yehoshua (יהושע).
1:15 This [is] a faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptation, that Mashiach Yehoshua (יהושע) came into the Olam Hazeh to save sinners; of whom I am chief.
1:16 Howbeit for this cause I obtained mercy, that in me first Yehoshua (יהושע) Mashiach might shew forth all longsuffering, for a pattern to them which should hereafter believe on him to life everlasting.
1:17 Now to the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only wise Elohim (אלהים), [be] honour and haKavod l'olam va'ed. Amein.
1:18 This charge I commit to you, son Timotheos (Τιμόθεος), according to the prophecies which went before on you, that thou by them mightest war a good warfare;
1:19 Holding faith, and a good conscience; which some having put away concerning faith have made shipwreck:
1:20 Of whom is Humenaios and Alexandros; whom I have delivered to satan, that they may learn not to blaspheme.
Timotheos (Τιμόθεος) was young servant of Mashiach, appointed to lead in the Assembly at Ephesios. He has acquire the know how the way of proclaim the good news and how to lead in the congregation. In this letter Paulos was passing on all the wisdom he had learned and the insight over the years of his ministry to Timotheos (Τιμόθεος).
