Mosheh exhortation to obey the Torah

Jewish Great commission

To live out the Torah for the surrounding nations to encounter YHWH Elohim

4:1 Ve atah (Now therefore) Shema, Yisrael, unto the chukkim and unto the mishpatim, which I melammed (teach) you, for to do [them], that ye may live, and go in and yaresh (possess) ha eretz which YHWH (יהוה) Elohim (אלהים) of your avot giveth you.

4:2 Ye shall not add unto the word which I tzavah khem (command you), neither shall ye diminish [ought] from it, that ye may Shomer mitzvot YHWH (יהוה) Eloheinu which I tzavah khem (command you). (Revelation 22:18-19)

4:3 Your eyes have seen what YHWH (יהוה) did because of Ba'al-Pe'or: for all the men that followed Ba'al-Pe'or, YHWH (יהוה) Eloheicha hath destroyed them from among you.

4:4 But ye that did dabekus (cleave) unto YHWH (יהוה) Eloheinu [are] alive every one of you this day.

4:5 (ii)

Ra'ah (See), I have taught you chukkim and mishpatim, even as YHWH (יהוה) my Elohim (אלהים) commanded me, that ye should do so in ha eretz whither ye go to yaresh (possess) it.

4:6 Shomer therefore and do [them]; for this [is] your chokmah (wisdom) and your Binah (understanding) in the sight of the am (nations), which shall Shema all these chukkim, and say, Surely this great nation [is] a wise and Binah (understanding) people.

4:7 For what nation [is there so] great, who [hath] Elohim (אלהים) [so] nigh unto them, as YHWH (יהוה) Eloheinu [is] in all [things that] we call upon him [for]?

4:8 And what nation [is there so] great, that hath chukkim and mishpatim [so] righteous as all this Torah, which I set before you this day?

Revelation at Sinai / Horev

(Shemot chps 19-20, Devarim 5)

4:9 Only take heed to thyself, and Shomer Nefeshcha diligently, lest thou forget the things which thine eyes have seen, and lest they depart from thy heart all the days of thy life: but melammed (teach) them thy banim, and thy banim' banim;

4:10 [Specially] the day that thou stoodest before YHWH (יהוה) Eloheicha in Horev, when YHWH (יהוה) said unto me:

"Gather me the people together, and I will make them Shema My devarim, that they may learn to fear Me all the days that they shall live upon the earth, and [that] they may melammed (teach) their children."

4:11 And ye came near and stood under the mountain; and the mountain burned with fire unto the midst of shamayim, with darkness, clouds, and thick darkness.

4:12 And YHWH (יהוה) spake unto you out of the midst of the fire: ye heard the voice of the devarim, but saw no form; only [ye heard] a voice.

4:13 And He declared unto you His Brit, which he commanded you to perform, [even] ten mitzvot; and he wrote them upon two tables of stone.

4:14 And YHWH (יהוה) commanded me at that time to melammed (teach) you chukkim and mishpatim, that ye might do them in ha eretz whither ye go over to yaresh (possess) it.

Beware of Idolatry

4:15 Take ye therefore shomer me'od unto yourselves; for ye saw no form  on the day when YHWH (יהוה) spake unto you in Horev out of the midst of the fire:

4:16 Lest ye corrupt [yourselves], and make you a pesel (graven image), the form of any figure, the temunah (likeness, representation) of male or female,

4:17 The temunah of any beast that [is] on the earth, the temunah of any winged fowl that flieth in the air,

4:18 The temunah of any thing that creepeth on the ground, the temunah of any fish that [is] in the mayim beneath the earth:

4:19 And lest thou lift up thine eyes unto shamayim, and when thou seest the sun, and the moon, and the stars, [even] all the host of shamayim, shouldest be driven to worship them, and serve them, which YHWH (יהוה) Eloheicha hath divided unto all goyim (nations) under the whole shamayim.

4:20 But YHWH (יהוה) hath taken you, and brought you forth out of the iron furnace, [even] out of Mitzrayim, to be unto him a people of inheritance, as [ye are] this day.

4:21 Furthermore YHWH (יהוה) was angry with me for your sakes, and sware that I should not go over Yarden, and that I should not go in unto that good eretz, which YHWH (יהוה) Eloheicha giveth thee [for] an inheritance:

4:22 But I must die in this eretz, I must not go over Yarden: but ye shall go over, and yaresh (possess) that good eretz.

4:23 Take heed unto yourselves, lest ye forget the Brit of YHWH (יהוה) Eloheinu, which he made with you, and make you a pesel (graven image), [or] the temunah (likeness, representation) of any [thing], which YHWH (יהוה) Eloheicha hath forbidden thee.

4:24 For YHWH (יהוה) Eloheicha [is] a consuming fire, [even] a El Kana (jealous).

4:25 When thou shalt beget children, and children's children, and ye shall have remained long in ha eretz, and shall corrupt [yourselves], and make a pesel (graven image), [or] the temunah (likeness, representation) of any [thing], and shall do evil in the sight of YHWH (יהוה) Eloheicha, to provoke Him to anger:

4:26 I call shamayim and earth to witness against you this day, that ye shall soon utterly perish from off  ha eretz whereunto ye go over Yarden to yaresh (possess) it; ye shall not prolong [your] days upon it, but shall utterly be destroyed.

Consequence of Idolatry

4:27 And YHWH (יהוה) shall putz (scatter) you among the goyim (nations), and ye shall be left few in number among the goyim, whither YHWH (יהוה) shall lead you.

4:28 And there ye shall serve gods, the work of men's hands, wood and stone, which neither see, nor Shema, nor eat, nor smell.

4:29 But if from thence thou shalt seek YHWH (יהוה) Eloheicha, thou shalt find [him], if thou seek him b'kol thy heart and b'kol thy Nefesh.

4:30 When thou art in tribulation, and all these things are come upon thee, [even] in the archarit ha yamin(latter days), if thou turn to YHWH (יהוה) Eloheicha, and shalt be shomer unto His voice;

4:31 (For YHWH (יהוה) Eloheicha [is] a merciful Elohim (אלהים); he will not forsake thee, neither destroy thee, nor forget the Brit of thy avot which he sware unto them.

4:32 For ask now of the days that are past, which were before thee, since the day that Elohim (אלהים) created man upon the earth, and [ask] from the one side of shamayim unto the other, whether there hath been [any such thing] as this great thing [is], or hath been heard like it?

4:33 Did [ever] people Shema the voice of Elohim (אלהים) speaking out of the midst of the fire, as thou hast heard, and live?

4:34 Or hath Elohim (אלהים) attempt to go [and] take him a nation from the midst of [another] nation, by temptations, by otot (signs), and by mofetim (wonders), and by war, and by a yad chazaka (mighty hand), and by a stretched out arm, and by great terrors, according to all that YHWH (יהוה) Eloheinu did for you in Mitzrayim before your eyes?

4:35 Unto thee it was shewed, that thou mightest know that YHWH (יהוה) he [is] Elohim (אלהים); [there is] none else beside him.

4:36 Out of shamayim he made thee to Shema His voice, that he might instruct thee: and upon earth he shewed thee his great fire; and thou heardest his devarim out of the midst of the fire.

4:37 And because he loved thy avot, therefore he chose their seed after them, and brought thee out in his sight with his mighty power out of Mitzrayim;

4:38 To drive out goyim (nations) from before thee greater and mightier than thou [art], to bring thee in, to give thee their eretz [for] an inheritance, as [it is] this day.

4:39 Know therefore this day, and consider [it] in l'vavcha, that YHWH (יהוה) he [is] Elohim (אלהים) in shamayim above, and upon the earth beneath: [there is] none else.

4:40 Thou shalt Shomer therefore his chukkim, and his mitzvot, which I tzavah thee this day, that it may go well with thee, and with thy banim after thee, and that thou mayest prolong [thy] days upon the earth, which YHWH (יהוה) Eloheicha giveth thee, for ever.

Cities of Refuge East of Yarden

4:41(A:iii)

Then Mosheh (משׁה) severed three cities on this side Yarden toward the sunrising;

4:42 That the slayer might flee thither, which should kill his neighbour unawares, and hated him not in times past; and that fleeing unto one of these cities he might live:

4:43 [Namely], Bezer in the midbar, in the Aravah (plain) country, of the Reubeni; and Ramoth in Gil'ad, of the Gadites; and Golan in Bashan, of the Menashshi.

4:44 And this [is] the Torah which Mosheh (משׁה) set before benai Yisrael:

4:45 These [are] the edot, and the chukkim, and the mishpatim, which Mosheh (משׁה) spake unto benai Yisrael, after they came forth out of Mitzrayim,

4:46 On this side Yarden, in the valley over against Beit Peor, in ha eretz Sihon king of the Amorites, who dwelt at Heshbon, whom Mosheh (משׁה) and benai Yisrael smote, after they were come forth out of Mitzrayim:

4:47 And they yaresh (possessed) his eretz, and ha eretz Og king of Bashan, two kings of the Amorites, which [were] on this side Yarden toward the sunrising;

4:48 From Aroer, which [is] by the bank of the river Arnon, even unto mount Sion, which [is] Hermon,

4:49 And all the Aravah on this side Yarden eastward, even unto the sea of the Aravah (plain), under the springs of Pisgah.

About Ba'al Peor - rw[p l[b = "lord of the gap" found in four books The Moabite god who appears both as a male sun-god and a female moon-goddess. His name means "lord of Peor", referring to Mount Peor on the left bank of the river Jordan, the center of his cult. Last couple Torah reading the plague, the theory of baal worship as much in similar terminology of the Yisraelites

Nu 25:3   And Yisrael joined himself unto Baal Peor: and the anger of YHWH was kindled against Israel.
Nu 25:5   And Mosheh said unto the judges of Yisrael, Slay ye every one his men that were joined unto Baal Peor.
24,000 were executed there by the plague  (Numbers 25:9)
IIIn the coming Torah studies we are reminded again
Devarim 4:3   Your eyes have seen what YHWH did because of Baal Peor: for all the men that followed Baal Peor, YHWH  Eloheicha hath destroyed them from among you.

Tehillim 106:28-31
  They joined themselves also unto Baal Peor, and ate the sacrifices of the dead. Thus they provoked him to anger with their inventions: and the plague brake in upon them. Then stood up Pinchas, and executed judgment: and so the plague was stayed. And that was counted unto him for righteousness unto all generations for evermore.(Tehillim 106 a reminder list of iniquities of benai Yisrael)

Hoshea 9:10
   I found Yisrael like grapes in the wilderness; I saw your fathers as the Bikkurah in the fig tree at her first time: but they went to Baal Peor, and separated themselves unto that shame; and their abominations were according as they loved.

Peor became a by word for shame along with ba'al, which is best translated as shame in Hoshea. Evidently, the name refers to a Moavite mountain. It was one of the places from which Bila'am blessed Yisrael (Badmibar 23:28).
