ELUL is the month of S'LICHOT (forgiveness). It's the month when we forgive each other before we enter the 10 Days of Awe (Yamim HaNoraim). R' Yeshua said: "Forgive so that you maybe forgiven." Yochanan Alef 1:9 ואם־נתודה את־חטאתינו נאמן הוא וצדיק לסלח לחטאתינו ולטהרנו מכל־עון׃ If we acknowledge our sins, then, since HE is trustworthy and just, HE will forgive them and purify us from all wrongdoing.
May the last Shabbat of _____ be a Shabbat that brings repentance for the year ____, may we enter Yamim Noraim with broken-hearted and may our name be recorded in the Sefer HaChayim. SELICHOT סליחות (plural) comes from the word SELICHAH סליחה (singular), means communal prayers or individual prayer ask for Divine forgiveness. It is commonly said preceding the High Holiday season or during the High Holiday season or on Jewish fast days. Elul, when spelled in Hebrew letters, is the acronym for the words, "I am to my beloved, my beloved is to me" (ani l'dodi v'dodi Li.)
