20:1 And Avraham journeyed from thence toward the south country, and dwelled between Kadesh and Shur, and sojourned in Gerar.

20:2 And Avraham said of Sarah his wife, She [is] my sister: and Avi-Melekh king of Gerar sent, and took Sarah.

20:3

But Elohim (אלהים) came to Avi-Melekh in a dream by night, and said to him:

Hinei, you [are but] a dead man, for the woman which you have taken; for she [is] a man's wife.

20:4 But Avi-Melekh had not come near her: and he said, Adonay (אדני), will you slay also a righteous nation?

20:5 Said he not to me, She [is] my sister? and she, even she herself said, He [is] my brother: in the integrity of my heart and innocency of my hands have I done this.

20:6 And Elohim (אלהים) said to him in a dream:

Yes, I know that you didst this in the integrity of your heart; for I also withheld you from sinning against me: therefore suffered I you not to touch her.

20:7 Now therefore restore the man [his] wife; for he [is] a Navi, and he shall pray for you, and you shall live: and if you restore [her] not, know you that you shall surely die, you, and all that [are] your.

20:8 Therefore Avi-Melekh rose early in the morning, and called all his avadim, and told all these things in their ears: and the men were sore afraid.

20:9 Then Avi-Melekh called Avraham, and said to him, What have you done to us? and what have I offended you, that you have brought on me and on my kingdom a great sin? you have done deeds to me that ought not to be done.

20:10 And Avi-Melekh said to Avraham, What sawest you, that you have done this thing?

20:11 And Avraham said, Because I thought, Surely the fear of Elohim (אלהים) [is] not in this place; and they will slay me for my wife's sake.

20:12 And yet indeed [she is] my sister; she [is] the daughter of my father, but not the daughter of my mother; and she became my wife.

20:13 And it came to pass, when Elohim (אלהים) caused me to wander from my father's house, that I said to her, This [is] your kindness which you shall shew to me; at every place whither we shall come, say of me, He [is] my brother.

20:14 And Avi-Melekh took sheep, and oxen, and male servants, and female servants, and gave [them] to Avraham, and restored him Sarah his wife.

20:15 And Avi-Melekh said, Hinei, my land [is] before you: dwell where it pleases you.

20:16 And to Sarah he said, Hinei, I have given your brother a thousand [pieces] of silver: Hinei, he [is] to you a covering of the eyes, to all that [are] with you, and with all [other]: thus she was reproved.

20:17 So Avraham prayed to Elohim (אלהים): and Elohim (אלהים) healed Avi-Melekh, and his wife, and his female servants; and they bore [children].

20:18 For YHWH (יהוה) had fast closed up all the wombs of the house of Avi-Melekh, because of Sarah Avraham's wife.
