30:15 And she said to her, [Is it] a small matter that you have taken my husband? and wouldest you take away my son's mandrakes also? And Rachel (רחל) said, Therefore he shall lie with you to night for your son's mandrakes.
30:16 And Ya'akov (יעקב) came out of the field in the evening, and Le'ah (לאה) went out to meet him, and said, You must come in to me; for surely I have hired you with my son's mandrakes. And he lay with her that night.
30:17 And Elohim (אלהים) listened to Le'ah (לאה), and she conceived, and bare Ya'akov (יעקב) the fifth son.
30:18 And Le'ah (לאה) said, Elohim (אלהים) has given me my hire, because I have given my maiden to my husband: and she called his nameY isakar.

30:24 And she called his name Yosef; and said, YHWH (יהוה) shall add to me another son.
30:25 And it came to pass, when Rachel (רחל) had born Yosef, that Ya'akov (יעקב) said to Lavan, Send me away, that I may go to mine own place, and to my country.
30:26 Give [me] my wives and my children, for whom I have served you, and let me go: for you know my service which I have done you.
30:27 And Lavan said to him, I pray you, if I have found favour in your eyes, [tarry: for] I have learned by experience that YHWH (יהוה) has blessed me for your sake.
30:28 (v) And he said, Appoint me your wages, and I will give [it].
30:29 And he said to him, You know how I have served you, and how your cattle was with me.
30:30 For [it was] little which you had before I [came], and it is [now] increased to a multitude; and YHWH (יהוה) has blessed you since my coming: and now when shall I provide for mine own house also?
30:31 And he said, What shall I give thee? And Ya'akov (יעקב) said, You shall not give me any thing: if you will do this thing for me, I will again feed [and] keep your flock:
30:32 I will pass through all your flock to day, removing from thence all the speckled and spotted cattle, and all the brown cattle among the sheep, and the spotted and speckled among the goats: and [of such] shall be my hire.
30:33 So shall my righteousness answer for me in time to come, when it shall come for my hire before your face: every one that [is] not speckled and spotted among the goats, and brown among the sheep, that shall be counted stolen with me.
30:34 And Lavan said, Hinei, I would it might be according to your word.
30:35 And he removed that day the he goats that were ringstraked and spotted, and all the she goats that were speckled and spotted, [and] every one that had [some] white in it, and all the brown among the sheep, and gave [them] into the hand of his sons.
30:36 And he set three days' journey betwixt himself and Ya'akov (יעקב): and Ya'akov (יעקב) fed the rest of Lavan's flocks.
30:37 And Ya'akov (יעקב) took him rods of green poplar, and of the hazel and chesnut tree; and pilled white strakes in them, and made the white appear which [was] in the rods.
30:38 And he set the rods which he had pilled before the flocks in the gutters in the mayiming troughs when the flocks came to drink, that they should conceive when they came to drink.
30:39 And the flocks conceived before the rods, and brought forth cattle ringstraked, speckled, and spotted.
30:40 And Ya'akov (יעקב) did separate the lambs, and set the faces of the flocks toward the ringstraked, and all the brown in the flock of Lavan; and he put his own flocks by themselves, and put them not to Lavan's cattle.
30:41 And it came to pass, whensoever the stronger cattle did conceive, that Ya'akov (יעקב) laid the rods before the eyes of the cattle in the gutters, that they might conceive among the rods.
30:42 But when the cattle were feeble, he put [them] not in: so the feebler were Lavan's, and the stronger Ya'akov (יעקב)'s.
30:43 And the man increased exceedingly, and had much cattle, and maidservants, and menservants, and camels, and asses.

Mandrake (love-apples; love-fruits; love-plants Mandragora officinarum) of verses 14, 15, 16 of this chapter is the common name for members of the plant genus Mandragora belonging to the nightshades family (Solanaceae). Because mandrake contains deliriant hallucinogenic tropane alkaloids such as hyoscyamine and the roots sometimes contain bifurcations causing them to resemble human figures.
Mandrake in Hebrew is דודאים (dûdã'im), meaning “love plant”. "love apples" Among certain Asian cultures, it is believed to ensure conception. Most interpreters [who?] hold Mandragora officinarum to be the plant intended in Genesis 30:14 ("love plant") and Song of Songs 7:13 ("the mandrakes send out their fragrance"). A number of other plants have been suggested such as blackberries, Zizyphus Lotus, the sidr of the Arabs, the banana, lily, citron, and fig.
