Review of the Brit Sinai (Shemot 20:1-17)
And Mosheh (משׁה) called all Yisra'el, and said to them, Shema, O Yisra'el, the chukim and mishpatim which I speak in your ears this day, that ye may learn them, and Shomer, and do them.
5:2 ADONAI (יהוה) Eloheinu made a Brit with us in Horev.
5:3 ADONAI (יהוה) made not this Brit with our avot, but with us, [even] us, who [are] all of us here alive this day.
5:4 ADONAI (יהוה) talked with you face to face in the mount out of the midst of the fire,
5:5 (I stood between ADONAI (יהוה) and you at that time, to show you the word of ADONAI (יהוה): for ye were afraid by reason of the fire, and went not up into the mount;) saying:
Anokhi (I) ADONAI (יהוה) Eloheicha, which brought you out of haeretz Mitzrayim, from the house of bondage.
You shall have none other gods before me.
You shall not make you [any] pesel (graven image), [or] any temunah (likeness, representation) [of any thing] that [is] in shamayim above, or that [is] in the earth beneath, or that [is] in the mayim beneath the earth:
You shall not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I ADONAI (יהוה) Eloheicha [am] a El Kana (jealous), visiting the iniquity of the avot upon the children to the third and fourth [generation] of them that hate me,
And showing mercy to thousands of them that love me and Shomer my mitzvot.
You shall not take the Name of ADONAI (יהוה) Eloheicha in vain: for ADONAI (יהוה) will not hold [him] guiltless that takes his name in vain.
Shomer the Yom Shabbat to sanctify it, as ADONAI (יהוה) Eloheicha has commanded you.
Six days you shall labour, and do all your work:
But the Yom HaShevi'i [is] the Shabbat of ADONAI (יהוה) Eloheicha: [in it] you shall not do any work, you, nor your son, nor your daughter, nor your manservant, nor your maidservant, nor your ox, nor your ass, nor any of your cattle, nor your stranger that [is] within your Sha'ar; that your manservant and your maidservant may rest as well as you.
And zakar that you wast a eved in haeretz Mitzrayim, and [that] ADONAI (יהוה) Eloheicha brought you out thence through a yad chazaka (mighty hand) and by a stretched out arm: therefore ADONAI (יהוה) Eloheicha commanded you to Shomer the Yom Shabbat.
Honour your father and your mother, as ADONAI (יהוה) Eloheicha has commanded you; that your days may be prolonged, and that it may go well with you, in haeretz which ADONAI (יהוה) Eloheicha gives you.
You shall not tirtzah (kill). (illegal killing, premediated murder, manslaughter).
Neither shall you commit adultery (tinaf).
Neither shall you tignov (steal).
Neither shall you bear false witness against your neighbour.
Neither shall you desire your neighbour's wife, neither shall you covet your neighbour's house, his field, or his manservant, or his maidservant, his ox, or his ass, or any [thing] that [is] your neighbour's.
Elleh Devarim ADONAI (יהוה) spake to all your assembly in the mount out of the midst of the fire, of the cloud, and of the thick darkness, with a great voice: and he added no more. And he wrote them in two tables of stone, and delivered them to me.
Shemot 20:18-21
5:23 And it came to pass, when ye heard the voice out of the midst of the darkness, (for the mountain did burn with fire,) that ye came near to me, [even] all the heads of your tribes, and your elders;
5:24 And ye said, hinei, ADONAI (יהוה) Eloheinu has showed us His kavod and His greatness, and we have heard His voice out of the midst of the fire: we have seen this day that Elohim (אלהים) does talk with man, and he lives.
5:25 Ve atah (Now therefore) why should we die? for this great fire will consume us: if we Shema the voice of ADONAI (יהוה) Eloheinu any more, then we shall die.
5:26 For who [is there of] all flesh, that has heard the voice of the living Elohim (אלהים) speaking out of the midst of the fire, as we [have], and lived?
5:27 Go you near, and Shema all that ADONAI (יהוה) Eloheinu shall say: and speak you to us all that ADONAI (יהוה) Eloheinu shall speak to you; and we will Shema [it], and do [it].
5:28 And ADONAI (יהוה) heard the voice of your devarim, when ye spake to me; and ADONAI (יהוה) said to me, I have heard the voice of the devarim of this people, which they have spoken to you: they have well said all that they have spoken.
5:29 O that there were such an heart in them, that they would fear Me, and Shomer all My mitzvot always, that it might be well with them, and with their children forever!
5:30 Go say to them, Get you into your tents again.
5:31 But as for you, stand you here by me, and I will speak to you Kol ha Mitzvot, and the chukim, and the mishpatim, which you shall melammed (teach) them, that they may do [them] in haeretz which I give them to yaresh (possess) it.
5:32 You shall shomer to do therefore as ADONAI (יהוה) Eloheinu has commanded you: ye shall not turn aside to the right hand or to the left.
5:33 You shall halak in all the ways which ADONAI (יהוה) Eloheinu has commanded you, that ye may live, and [that it may be] well with you, and [that] ye may prolong [your] days in haeretz which ye shall yaresh (possess).
