An explanation to love Hashem because of His powerful deeds

11:1 Therefore you shall ahav Adonai (יהוה)  Eloheicha, and shomer his mishmeret (charge), and His chukkot, and His mishpatim, and His mitzvot, alway.

11:2 And know you this day: for [I speak] not with your banim which have not known, and which have not seen the musar (chastisement) of Adonai (יהוה)  Eloheichem, His greatness, His yad chazakah (mighty hand), and his stretched out arm,

11:3 And His otot (miracles), and His ma'asim (acts), which He did in the midst of Mitzrayim to Paroh the melekh of Mitzrayim, and to all his land;

11:4 And what He did to the army of Mitzrayim, to their horses, and to their chariots; how he made the mayim of the Yam Suf to overflow them as they pursued after you, and [how] Adonai (יהוה) has destroyed them to this day;

11:5 And what He did to you in the midbar, until you came into this place;

11:6 And what He did to Datan and Aviram, benai Eliav, Ben Reuven: how the land opened her mouth, and swallowed them up, and their households, and their tents, and every living substance that regel (foot follow step) them, in the midst of all Yisra'el:

11:7 But your eyes have seen all the great ma'asim (acts) of Adonai (יהוה) which he did.

Rewards for Obedience (8-32)

11:8 Therefore shall you shomer all the mitzvot which I command you this day, that you may be strong, and go in and yaresh (possess ירשׁ) the land, whither you go to yaresh it;

11:9 And that you may prolong [your] yamin in the land, which Adonai (יהוה) sware to your avot to give to them and to their seed, a land that flows with milk and honey.

11:10 (vi)

For the land, into which you are entering to yaresh (possess) it, [is] not as the land of Mitzrayim, from which you came where you used to sow your seed and water it with your foot like a vegetable garden.

11:11 But the land, whither you go to yaresh (possess ירשׁ) it, [is] a land hills and valleys, [and] drinketh mayim of the rain of shamayim:

11:12 A land which Adonai (יהוה)  Eloheicha cares for: the eyes of Adonai (יהוה)  Eloheicha [are] always upon it, from the beginning of the year even to the end of the year.

And it shall come to pass, if you shall shema diligently to my mitzvot which I command you this day, to love Adonai (יהוה)  Eloheichem, and to serve him with all your lev and with all your nefesh,

Venatati metar-'artzechem be'ito yoreh umalkosh ve'asafta deganecha vetiroshecha veyitzharecha.

That I will give [you] the rain of your land in his due season, the first rain and the latter rain, that you may gather in your corn, and your wine, and your oil.

Venatati esev besadecha livhemtecha ve'achalta vesava'eta.

And I will give grass in your fields for your cattle, and you shall eat and be satisfied.

Take heed to yourselves, that your lev be not deceived, and you turn aside, and serve other gods, and worship them;

And [then] Adonai's wrath be kindled against you, and he shut up the shamayim, that there be no rain, and that the land yield not her fruit; and [lest] you perish quickly from off the good land which Adonai (יהוה) is giving you.

11:22 (vii & Maftir)

For if you shall diligently shomer all these mitzvot which I command you, to do them, to ahav Adonai  Eloheichem, to halak in all His derek, and to dabak (follow closely cleave) to him;

11:23 Then will Adonai (יהוה) drive out all these nations from before you, and you shall yaresh (possess ירשׁ) greater nations and mightier than yourselves.

11:24 Every place whereon the soles of your feet shall tread shall be yours: from the midbar and Levanon, from the river, the river Euphrates, even to the uttermost sea shall your coast be.

11:25 There shall no man be able to stand before you: [for] Adonai (יהוה)  Eloheichem shall lay the fear of you and the dread of you upon all the land that you shall tread upon, as he has said to you.

Parashah 47:

11:26 (i) The Blessing and the curse

Reeh Anochi noten lifneichem hayom beracha ukelalah:

Behold, I set before you this day the blessing and the curse:

11:27 A blessing, if you shama (obey) the mitzvot of Adonai  Eloheichem, which I command you this day:

11:28 And a curse, if you not shama (obey) the mitzvot of Adonai (יהוה) Eloheichem, but turn aside out of the way which I command you this day, to go after other gods, which you have not known.

11:29 And it shall come to pass, when Adonai  Eloheicha has brought you in to the land whither you goest to yaresh (possess ירשׁ) it, that you shall put the blessing upon Mount Gerizim, and the curse upon Mount Eival.

11:30 [Are] they not on the other side Yarden, by the way where the sun goeth down, in the land the Kenaanite, which dwell in the champaign over against Gilgal, beside the plains of Moreh?

11:31 For you shall pass over Yarden to go in to yaresh the land which Adonai (יהוה)  Eloheichem gives you, and you shall yaresh it, and dwell therein.

11:32 And you shall shomer to do all the chukkot and mishpatim which I set before you this day.

The Torah wishes to convey different and specific messages when it chooses to use either see or "hear" to mean an understanding of “ Shema “, hear , the indication is that we are to make a commitment which involves our intellect.

" Re'eh," to see, means we are to make a commitment that involves our emotions.

- To "hear" requires a greater and deeper understanding, and

- To "see" requires a greater reaction to an understanding that is already present.

Gerizim = “cuttings off” a mountain in northern Yisra'el in Efrayim near Shechem from which the blessings were read to the Yisra'elites on entering kenaan; site of the Samaritan temple built after the captivity
