A Song of Confidence in Hashem's Triumph over Evil

Public Enemy Number One

10:1 Why standest you afar off, O ADONAI (יהוה)? [why] hidest you [yourself] in times of trouble?

10:2 (10:1) The wicked in [his] pride doth persecute the poor: let them be taken in the devices that they have imagined.

10:3 (10:2) For the wicked boasteth of his heart's desire, and blesses the covetous, [whom] ADONAI (יהוה) abhorrs.

10:4 (10:3) The wicked, through the pride of his countenance, will not seek [after Elohim]: Elohim [is] not in all his thoughts.

10:5 (10:4) His ways are always grievous;

Thy judgments [are] far above out of his sight: [as for] all his enemies, he puffeth at them.

10:6 (10:5) He has said in his heart, I shall not be moved: for [I shall] never [be] in adversity.

10:7 (10:6) His mouth is full of cursing and deceit and fraud: under his tongue [is] mischief and vanity.

10:8 (10:7) He sitteth in the lurking places of the villages: in the secret places doth he murder the innocent:

his eyes are privily set against the poor.

10:9 (10:8) He lieth in wait secretly as a lion in his den: he lies in wait to catch the poor: he doth catch the poor, when he draws him into his net.

10:10 (10:9) He croucheth, [and] humbles himself, that the poor may fall by his strong ones.

10:11 (10:10)He has said in his heart, Elohim has forgotten: he hideth his face; he will never see [it].

10:12 (10:11) Arise, O ADONAI (יהוה); O Elohim, lift up thine hand: forget not the humble.

10:13 (10:12) Wherefore doth the wicked contemn Elohim? he has said in his heart, You will not require [it].

10:14 (10:13) You have seen [it]; for you beholds mischief and spite, to requite [it] with your hand: the poor committeth himself to thee; you art the helper of the fatherless.

10:15 (10:14) Break you the arm of the wicked and the evil [man]: seek out his wickedness [till] you find none.

10:16 (10:15) ADONAI (יהוה) [is] King for ever and ever: the Goyim are perished out of his land.

10:17 (10:16) ADONAI (יהוה), you have heard the desire of the humble: you will prepare their heart, you will cause thine ear to hear:

10:18 (10:17) To judge the fatherless and the oppressed, that the man of ha'eretz may no more oppress.
